We got it! July 24, 2008
I won’t go into all of the grumpiness that came with getting out of bed a few minutes ago to help Nick with a house project he is working on. The reward? (Besides the beautiful new shelves in the bathroom…) I decided to check email before returning to bed and there it was! An email containing the acknowledgment of receipt of our I600. It arrived at 11:04pm. So the 60 business days begin…tomorrow when I get out of bed, I’ll start counting at 1.
(I have been confused for the last few days about where the I600 application was and what that meant for getting the receipt. We sent it to the agency 13 days ago. Yesterday we got an email with info to print out for when we travel saying that it was sent to the CIS office. Originally I had expected it sometime this week. But then after yesterday’s email I thought another 14-18 days. Whatever…I’m just thrilled we can start this final count.)
Update: According to the date on the letter from CIS, Thursday is actually Day #3.
Waiting July 23, 2008
I haven’t written much about what the process looks like now that we have a referral. Today our I600 paperwork has been sent to CIS HCMC for approval. We should receive a receipt of acknowledgment within the next 14-18 days from CIS. With any luck it will happen more quickly than that….but I’m not holding my breath. Once we receive the receipt, we will begin the wait for our I600 approval. It can take up to 60 business days to get that. Apparently the average wait is closer to 47 if all goes well. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
At one point in this process (before we sent our dossier) I was excited that when we were told 10 days it would often happen in 7. Let me clarify…the big picture has stretched out much longer than anticipated…but the little paperwork details at that point seemed to move along smoothly. However, over the last five months everything seems to take just a bit longer than we thought it might. Flexibility, patience, faith…all HUGELY important aspects of this journey.
Once we receive approval from CIS, we’ll likely travel with in a couple of weeks. So, while we’re hoping to travel in October, anything could happen. It could be faster than that. It could be longer than that. Only time will tell. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers over the coming weeks that things happen smoothly and quickly!
Vietnamese Alphabet July 20, 2008
As we put together a care package to send to the baby…we decided to have a note translated into Vietnamese for her nanny. Vietnamese is fairly difficult b/c a single word can mean many things depending on the accent. Out of curiosity we looked up the Vietnamese alphabet (again). I thought I’d share with everyone else. In some ways familiar….with the exception of the duplicate letters. 🙂

Four Furry Finger Friends July 10, 2008
A few weeks ago, while we were still waiting for the referral, I found these wonderful little finger puppets. I couldn’t help myself and so I got some. I figure that when we travel we’ll want to take a few small toys along, but we’ll also be pressed on space. I thought these would be perfect to take with us and plus, they make me smile.
